The trek from Lenno that reaches the Val Perlana is a splendid loop excursion of nearly 13 kilometers. It’s not difficult, it runs along urban and dirt roads, trails and mule tracks. In addition to offering us evocative views of Lago di Como, the excursion runs across some of the world’s most unique places in the world, we remember the Via Crucis della Madonna del Soccorso (16th century), the ancient Romanesque abbazia di San Benedetto (11th century) and the abbazia dell'Acquafredda (17th century). The town of Lenno is easily accessible by boat (Ente Navigazioni Laghi) or by bus with the C 10 line (Como - Menaggio - Colico).
From the Lenno pier we travel Via Lungo Lago, once in Piazza XI Febbraio we turn right towards the church of Santo Stefano and the baptistry of San Giovanni Battista. We’ll travel along the left of the church, following Via Antica Regina to the characteristic village of Campo. Once over the bridge of the Perlana Torrent, we will cross the provincial road and turn right onto Via Luigi Vaccani. Climbing to the village of Mulini and turning left at the top of the steps, we’ll quickly come across the first chapel of Via Crucis del Sacro Monte di Ossuccio. Once at the church of Madonna del Soccorso (420 m) we find – in addition to an amazing view of the central part of Lago di Como - a bar-trattoria and a rest area with tables and benches.
The steep path climbs towards the clearing of Cremia, beyond the cabins we enter the woods passing halfway through the beautiful Val Perlana. In some places the climb is more difficult, and after passing some streams with one last push we reach Abbey of San Benedetto (820 m). The church is well-conserved and in good condition, nearby we find a water source and a well-equipped rest area. We head down, over the bridge over the Perlana Torrent, and we find ourselves on the opposite side of the valley. The path enters the woods where we turn right and begin the descent to Abbey of Acquafredda, arriving at the monastery where we recommend taking a break to visit the complex. From the Abbey, we head down the scenic path (Via Acquafredda), once at the church of Santissima Trinità, we turn left onto Via al Soccorso, cross the provincial road and reach the lakefront.
