From Piazza Caronti we head up to the old village of Torno, and along Via Pozzo we find the street sign pointing towards the Strada Regia. After turning left we go along the road towards Molina up to the bridge over the Stravalle stream. Being careful, we head down on Strada Provinciale 583 and after a short stretch we follow the path to the right that goes up into the woods. Once we reach the old bridge over the Pliniana Valley we enter the territory of Faggeto Lario, where the path continues halfway up, giving us wonderful views, and after a slight climb we reach the Chapel of San Rocco patron saint of wayfarers. From the Chapel of San Rocco we go up towards Molina, walking through the alleys of the centuries-old village, going beyond the church of Sant'Antonio and passing through via Fontana Vecchia.
The paved road becomes a path, with the hamlet of Lemna rising in front of us, however to reach it we must go around the Valle dei Molini and cross a stream. At the Chapel of the Madonna del Rosario we follow Via alla Cappelletta in the direction of the San Giorgio di Lemna Church, near which it is possible to visit the Masso Avallo of Bicogno, a stone excavated burial purposes in Roman times. We leave Lemna on Via Bernardo Silo and walk along a stretch of provincial road to bring us to Palanzo. A detour to the right takes us to the heart of the ancient village where we can visit the church of Sant'Ambrogio and the famous Torchio built in 1572.
In Palanzo, near the chapel of the Madonna of Loreto we find the path descending towards Pognana Lario, and after a beautiful panoramic stretch we arrive at the church of San Rocco, something that is absolutely worth seeing. We pass the towns of Canzaga and Castello, walking along Via Quarzano to the church of San Miro in Rovasco, outside of which we can let ourselves relish in some of the frescoes from the 13th century rendered in Byzantine tradition. In Quarzano the ascent to the Monti di Careno begins, with the trail climbing steeply into the woods, while behind us wonderful views of Lake Como continue to open up, and in about an hour's walk we arrive at the stone farmhouses once used in the transhumance periods of the livestock. We descend along Via dei Monti until we cross the mule track to Nesso, after passing the ruins of the Castle we arrive at the bridge over the Orrido di Nesso, thus wrapping up the second stage of the Strada Regia.
Torno is situated upon a headland, from where it looks down over the south-western end of lake Como. Traces of pre-Roman settlements have been found in the area, as evidenced by the discovery of Massi Avelli to Piazzaga.
TornoThe Faggeto Lario territory is an excellent departure point for excursions on Bolettone, Pizzo dell'Asino and Palanzone mountains, to visit near the peak of Mount Palanzone the Cave Gugliemo, a cave of karst origin.
Faggeto LarioNesso has many tourist attractions, we recommend the Ravine Cascade, visible from Piazza Castello and from the Medieval Civera bridge on the shore of Lake Como, reachable from the villages of Riva and Coatesa.
