The Church of Saint Lorenzo was begun in 1775-1776, the construction of the new parish stopped after only two years due to lack of funds, because of the death of the main financial backers, residing outside of the town of Tremezzo. Construction was resumed after nearly 100 years and ended in 1894, upon the design of Architect Parrocchetti, to whom the work was entrusted in a second time, and who distanced himself from the elaborated plans in a first time of Architect Carlo Colombo. The imposing building, in an eclectic mix of neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic styles, was frescoed on the inside by painter Luigi Tagliaferri who worked there from 1906 to 1910, realizing all of the paintings of the choir and the vault.
The side alters of the ancient parochial church demolished in 1892, were replaced in a new church, therefore the one containing the ancient painting depicting the Madonna offering Baby Jesus to Saint Anthony of Padova with angels as the crown, commissioned by Don Carlo I Mainoni, feudal lord of the Mainona (today ex-Nido Mosca), who also had built at his expense the black-marble, twisted column altar. Also coming from the ancient church is the oil painting portraying St. Antonio Abbot, St. Rocco and St. Sebastian, to which was applied a golden wood Greek key from the old altar from Our Lady of the Rosary. The painter/architect Eliseo Fumagalli from Delebio designed and painted Our Lady of the Rosary's neo-Gothic altar with a wooden Baroque statue, restored by the decorator Capiaghi in 1862. In 1925 he planned the flight of steps for the installation of the church square, on which the War Memorial work of sculptor Alberti, portraying Immortality and inaugurated on May 25, 1924, already stood.

NavigationLenno stands on Lake Como, enjoys a mild, dry climate, which facilitates the growth of Mediterranean vegetation. It's located in a gulf lovely enough to merit the name Gulf of Venus. We recommend a visit to villa Balbianello.
