The park is probably Villa Monastero's most famous attraction. A true botanical garden, which Faces Lake Como's eastern shore, on a neck of land which stretches from Varenna toward Fiumelatte. There are many exotic woody species scattered throughout the garden, which also demonstrate the enjoyable climate of Varenna.
We can find American and African Palm Trees, agaves, yuccas, dracaenas, citrus trees, oleanders, as well as a few botanical rarities such as the Erythea Armata, a palm tree with large silver, fan-shaped leaves. Even the architectural elements decorating the park respond to the same variety principle: banisters, statues, small temples, vases, wells and fountains, even the kaffee-haus at the end toward Fiumelatte, recall from Baroque to classic, even Moorish styles.
Incredibly charming styles and elements: small streets and stairways integrate themselves perfectly with the surrounding territory and with Lake Como in the background. In some cases, the constructed element seems to only serve to indicate scenic views, such as the twisted columns on the lake balustrade.
In the garden ornaments, the piece with the highest value is the statuesque group of the Clemenza di Tito (Tito's mercy), work of the neo-classical artist, Giovan Battista Comolli, brought here by Walter Kees at the end of the 19th century. Villa Monastero's park is of notable interest for its historical value, its wealth of vegetal species, as well as its being an excellent place for its visitors to relax.
