The fourth stage of the Sentiero del Viandante starts from the Tower of Orezia in Dervio and ends at the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Valpozzo in Piantedo. From the Castello di Dervio we continue heading north, passing a roundabout and eventually we reach the area where there is the Monastero degli Umiliati. We keep on going on via Monastero up to the panoramic path that leads to Corenno Plinio, and once upon reaching the medieval village we recommend a visit to the church of San Tommaso di Canterbury. We head out by going along the provincial road for a short distance, turning right on the path that runs along the cemetery of Corenno and passes through Torchiedo in the municipality of Dorio.
The path climbs into the woods, and before reaching the stone houses of Mandonico we meet the age-old church of San Giorgio. Once past Mandonico, after a bout of flatland, the ascent towards the church of San Rocco begins with the little church rising in a splendid panoramic position, and nearby there is a fully equipped rest stop with tables, benches and a fountain. We set off again into the woods, where to the left of the path there are magnificent views of the Olgiasca peninsula and where we can find other rest areas to catch our breath. After having passed by the Rossello stream, we step into Perdonasco and following a short stretch we cross the houses of Sparesèe. The mule track ends at the Madonna dei Monti church, and the descent towards Posallo begins on a paved road.
We go down for about two kilometers, where after having reached Posallo we then turn right and cross the Perlino stream, continuing uphill to the church of San Rocco. From San Rocco we arrive at Robustello, just a short distance from the Inganna stream and with a short detour you can visit the ancient Tower of Fontanedo, a defensive and observance building dating back to the XIV century. Going down through the hamlets of Chiaro and Chiarello we next arrive at Curcio, and on via Strada Granda we cut right onto via Biasett and pass the state road (SS 36). The trail climbs into the woods up to a vantage point overlooking the factories of Colico, after which we continue downhill and with a detour to the left we find ourselves at the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Valpozzo, wrapping up the fourth stage of the Sentiero del Viandante.
The mountains surrounding Dervio offer plenty of opportunity to take excursions and walks, like those which lead to the Bellano and Nogara shelters, or those which climb Legnone mountain and Legnoncino mountain.
